The thing about this is that sculptures like these in art history were for the male gaze. Photoshop a phone to it and suddenly she’s seen as vain and conceited. That’s why I’m 100% for selfie culture because apparently men can gawk at women but when we realize how beautiful we are we’re suddenly full of ourselves…

YES.

Girls don’t let anyone tell you loving yourself is vanity.

“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for your own pleasure.” ― John Berger, Ways of Seeing

Second favorite GIF of the day. Turtles are a symbol for protection as withdrawing into it’s shell is an amazing self-defense mechanism.

The turtle has few predators, which gives it an innocent energy. Therefore a turtle has a long lifespan, and so holds the symbolic meaning for longevity in many cultures.

“Each of us is born with a box of matches inside us but we can’t strike them all by ourselves”

― Laura Esquivel, Like Water for Chocolate

We’ve all heard of Betty Boop. But how many of you knew that she was based off of a BLACK woman.

Yes Betty Boop was based off of Ms.Esther Jones known by her stage name “Baby Esther”. She was an African-American singer and entertainer of the 1920’s. Her singing trademark was “Boop oop da doop” hence the name Betty Boop! She performed regularly at the cotton club in Harlem,New York.

I think it’s good luck when a giant dragonfly likes to hangout on your new fence. It was there yesterday and today. #nature #backyard
